Dexmedetomidine Offers Natural Sleep
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 16th, 2008 in Health Issues, SLEEP News, Sleep Business.
To avoid the pain when we visit our dentist for possible tooth extractions or even root canals, we would normally be given anesthesia or sedatives so we can sleep through the pain. With that in mind, would we dare use it when we cannot sleep ourselves?
Of course, there is no pain involved in this case. Perhaps the only pain we may have in mind is the after-effect to which no sleep may result in probable health risk events.
But going back, Dex (Dexmedetomidine) has been found to be a natural way of putting patients to sleep for possible dental procedures. Makes you wonder if they can do the same for normal sleeping wants.
Then again, that would need medical clearance to which doctors are sure to evaluate you if and when it can be used as a natural sleep sedative outside dental procedures.
According to the bispectral index, which measures sedative state, patients remained in a sedative state even when they appeared to be clearly conscious. Thus, discontinuing the Dex infusion approximately 15 minutes before the end of the procedure is recommended to minimize recovery time.
It should also be noted that patients in this study were relatively young and healthy; higher doses and differences in age and health may affect the performance of Dex.

Bionovo May Solve Menopausal Hot Flashes
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 15th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
One thing about sleep deprivation in women is that when they have hot flashes during sleep, tendency is for them to get up and do the necessary to ease the discomfort. While there are a number of ways to go about it, sleep is something that serves as collateral damage as it is also affected when pains of menopausal disorders strike.
But thanks to this ongoing solution from Bionovo, women may yet see the last of these issues as the Emeryville business (NASDAQ: BNVI) had already reported positive results from a Phase II trial of the drug, saying patients had fewer hot flashes than women taking a placebo.
If all goes well, then perhaps women no longer have to worry about these issues and finally get the much deserved sleep that they have long deserved.

Where Do We Place Homeless People Looking for Sleep?
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 14th, 2008 in SLEEP News, Sleep Issues.
Not all people today have the luxury of sleeping in secure homes and apparently many displaced parts of society will have to find alternative solutions of where they can sleep as it was announced that authorities will start apprehending overnight campers at Kapiolani Park.
Of course, many are still considering it a bluff as most of them will only make their move once the authorities really set in and drive them away. But the fact of the matter is they are being given the grace period to look for other places to camp in for temporary shelter which seems to be more of a wait-and-see situation than really standing up to their word.
Police will start enforcing a new city law that restricts camping in public parks overnight, possibly forcing out more than a hundred people staying at Kapiolani Park.
Some homeless living at the park said they’d rather wait and see if the police start evicting people, than peremptorily move into a shelter.
Chuck Mailo, a Kapiolani Park resident for about two months, said he moved to Kapiolani from Aala Park because it seemed safer.
“It’s kind of a hard situation,” he said. “There are a lot of people medically disabled.”

Sleep Apnea Affects Erectile Dysfunctions
1 Comment Published by Brian Yalung September 13th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
Through a study conducted by researchers from University of Louisville’s Galia Soukhova-O’Hare, it was confirmed that sleep apnea affects another health issue and this has something to do with erectile dysfunction and sex drives for men.
If you think of it, the logic makes sense. For one, how can you expect a man to have sex if he has breathing problems? Well even though the experiment was made through the use of the usual experimental mice, at least now it has been confirmed that sleep apnea is indeed affecting parts of the human anatomy so sleep apnea really has to be avoided or treated as much as possible.
How were sleep apnea and ED linked? Testosterone wasn’t the problem; testosterone levels were unaffected by sleep apnea. And there weren’t any problems with the mice’s anatomy, either.
But the mice did have lower levels of an enzyme needed to make nitric oxide during the experiment, and they may have needed nitric oxide to help with blood flow for erections.

Get a Good Night Sleep with these Food Recommendations
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 12th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.
In the past, I had already posted an article on some good meals to take in case you are hungry but need to sleep. Here is another one I found on the web and though there may be similarities, these seem to be catered more towards organic and health food choices you may want to check out. They include mostly fruits and vegetables.
1. Potatoes
2. Bananas
3. Chamomite Tea
4. Honey
5. Bananas
6. Oatmeal
7. Almods
8. Flax Seeds
So if you want to sleep better on a manageable stomach, these are some healthy options you can consider. Never sleep on an empty stomach to avoid health issues such as ulcers or being acidic.
