Career Dedication Affects Sleep Patterns
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung April 26th, 2008 in Health Issues, SLEEP News, Sleep Business, Sleep Issues.
As far as sleeping soundly and as prescribed is concerned, a Canadian study revealed that high earners tend to sleep less than the average take-home pay worker obviously due to the fact that they spend more time of dedicating their time to work rather than going home and recharging after a day.
This is really something elementary. We all know the level of dedication that some people put towards their work and some have set aside sleep to make sure that they achieve what they want as far as career and profession is concerned. These are career-oriented people who could care less about their health at the prime of their lives but while it may be a great reprieve for the meantime, consideration towards overall health in the long run will surely take its toll.
A new study has found women get more sleep than men, but they also have a tougher time getting to sleep and staying asleep.
The Statistics Canada study also found Canadians earning $60,000 or more a year slept 40 minutes less on any given day in 2005 than someone who made $20,000.
It says high-income Canadians tend to dedicate more time to their paid work, spend less time with their children and less time engaged in leisure activities — so their lifestyle affects their sleep patterns.

Stress Creating Sleep Problems
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung April 18th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, SLEEP Psychology, Sleep Business, Sleep Issues.
As far as trying to get peaceful slumber is concerned, any person who may be pressured or stressed from work is sure to encounter some psychological problems when it comes to sleeping soundly. It may not necessarily be work. It can include a rude co-worker or an inconsiderate boss. Lack of sleep sets in when you are trying to find a way to even the score or perhaps try to keep their mouth shut.
Most people often bring these problems at home. They find little space to be able to sleep on it. Such stressful acts can contribute a lot to stress which in turn deprives us of our much needed sleep.
“Massive changes over the past half-century have reshaped the workplace, with major implications for sleep,” Burgard said. “For many workers, psychological stress has replaced physical hazards.”

Sleep Pods for Call Centre Agents
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung April 11th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, Insomnia, SLEEP News, Sleep Business, Sleep Issues.
Call center agents are not your normal employees who get to sleep the standard hours of the night. On the contrary, they work when most of the world is asleep since they have to be on alert on 24 hour shifts to provide the necessary services rendered towards people who endorse their products.
To be able to uphold their quality of service, a proposition for a sleep pod to help maintain the said service is being tested to help call center staffs beat the post-lunch dip to be more alert and focused.
Employees trialled a sleep pod that lulls the participant asleep with music and then gently vibrates them awake after 20-30 minutes.
Staff were allocated a regular time slot each day to have their nap - and 99% of them said the sleep left them feeling refreshed, more productive in their work and also improved their personal life because they had more energy later in the day. Only one participant couldn’t fall asleep and Virgin Media is continuing trialling the device.

How a Nap Steals from Companies
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung March 19th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Business, Sleep Issues.
There will be times when we are in the office and we may suddenly get that feeling of wanting to doze of for a second or two. It is only normal since it stems from boredom all the way towards lack of proper sleep. While such is a given when you are in the office place, it is likewise a form of stealing to certain extent since some employees tend to do it during the regular office hours.
Now most big bosses do not tolerate such acts. For one, it is a sign of an employee’s inability to produce the expected results. While many cannot help it, a lot has to do on how we discipline ourselves on how to obtain the proper sleeping hours to avoid these sleeping spells. If your superiors will hear nothing of it, chances are you may be walking on thin ice as far as your employment is concerned.
For the most sleep deprived section of the population, new parents, there is advice on how a 10 minute power nap can work wonders.
But is this the right thing? The effectiveness of napping varies from person to person. The reality is that some people need more sleep than others. And some of us get by with only four or five hours tops a night. And naps might not be that efficient because you are just getting into it when sleep time is finished.
