Back to School and Regular Sleep Schedules
1 Comment Published by Brian Yalung August 13th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues. The thing about going on vacation is that kids would be prone to doing away with the usual “sleep by this time” schedule set by their folks. This is one reason why most students always look for the summer break since they can practically do anything or stay up late either with friends, playing games or browsing the web.
After a couple of months though, it’s back to the sleep schedule so they will not be late for school. This is easier said than done. For most kids, it is appropriate to condition themselves to recall their sleeping habits since they have to attend school the next day. Outside that of avoiding being late, it is best to go to school with a well-rested body and mind so that lessons to be learned can be grasped better.
This is one reason why when school starts, you can see some kids become lazy to go to school and sit on the old school desks and chairs. Well, give them a couple of weeks and they will surely be back to normal. Just like us, kids have to get used to transition. In this case, school schedules will really force them to do so.
Here are some good sleeping tips to get back your kids on the right track as far as regulating their sleep schedule.

Herbal Medicine Prescriptions for Sleep Deprivation
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung August 7th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues, Sleeping Pills. The intake of various herbal medicine or unknown remedies to help cure sleep deprivation are no different from the usual health-related issues we have. But as far as medication is concerned, unknown meds should still come with the necessary prescription to avoid problems in the long run which may even cost you your life.
Such is the issue of the illegal herbal pill called estazolam which had claimed the life of Michael Berggen who died in a single vehicle roll-over two years ago. The only thing the Canadian authorities have gathered is that it is dangerous but as far as origin is concerned, they are just dumbfounded right now.
The veteran trucker and father of four was making his first run of the morning on Boxing Day, 2006, when he drove out of Hines Creek, 560 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, lost control of his tandem truck, hit a snowbank and rolled. He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
The medical examiner later discovered estazolam in his blood - a rare, powerful tranquilizer which can cause drowsiness and dizziness. It’s not clear what role the drug played in his death, if any, but Provincial Court Judge McIntosh presided over a fatality inquiry last week and is expected to report his findings in the coming months.

Turning off the Light Sources from Gadgets Help You Sleep
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung August 5th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.
Some people leave certain gadgets on and we all know that one small light source will always be visualized and these can be a source of distraction. While this can be a means to know where your gadgets are at, they will not go anywhere. Especially if you are in your room, you are sure to see them before and after you sleep. But the thing to be stressed here is SLEEP!
Regardless of how small that light indicator is, here is a good device to warn you and serve as a finder on where it may be. Just remember, you don’t need them when you sleep. You need to eliminate the light sources so you can be able sleep properly and enjoy them when it is time to get up.
Displayed is a LED-illuminated wireless router. LEDs can be useful indicators of what state a gadget it is in — or where to find it — but they also bug people who’d rather not have lights shining in their faces when they’re trying to sleep or watch movies.

Lack of Sleep Has Consequences
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung August 1st, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.Lack of sleep is something that has dire consequences and usually this is connected with our health. We all need to rest and sleep so that our bodies and internal genes and organs are able to function and last longer to keep us healthy. But while others tend to forego sleep for the sake of producing more, they are actually sacrificing more in terms of intellect and sensible living.
Sleep deprivation is an abuse we lash at our bodies. Without rest, we find ourselves opening a door for all illnesses and diseases to come in which if contracted may place us in living shorter. Medical intervention in the form of specialists and pills are great but they still cannot guarantee if our lives will last longer because of them. Sleeping is still the most important part of living healthy and making our body function properly.

“We spend - or should spend - a third of our lives sleeping,” says Amita Sehgal, PhD, Professor of Neuroscience and an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
“The idea that so much time is spent in sleep is intriguing. Also, sleep deprivation has serious health consequences and impairs cognitive function.”

Quality Sleep Can Rejuvenate Moods
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung July 26th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, SLEEP Psychology, Sleep Disorders.People who get incomplete sleep for one reason or another are likely to become cranky at times and others can only try to understand and get along with them for the meantime. Quality sleeps is essential to setting the tone and mood for most people today. Logically, how can a person relate or even get along with others if he alone cannot understand himself?

Such is a common thing we see for the people who lack sleep. Aside from being drained, their emotions are surely something that will be tender and picky. But once they do get their proper respite and sleep to make up for their lacking sleep endeavors, you will be surprised at the immediate change in mood and character. Who can blame them? Once you are rejuvenated you are bound to feel like a million bucks!
Dr Nilesh Dave, medical director of the Sleep and Breathing Disorders Centre at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre, says: “When you get good-quality sleep and enough hours of it, it is amazing how much better patients’ moods are, how much better they’re functioning. They’re truly happy.”
