Daycare Worker Convicted After Drugging Kids to Sleep

For slipping a dietary supplement to make kids sleep, former church daycare worker Pamela Hartley has been sentenced in Cincinnati to time in jail. She slipped the said supplement in candies and gave them to kids for them to sleep.

She was convicted for three counts of child endangering and three counts of misrepresentation by a childcare provider and was sentenced to six months, but all but 30 days of the sentence was suspended. Additionally, she also faces three years of probation.

Merck & Co. are developing a new drug that is said to help improve sleep and people suffering from insomnia. The drug is called the MK-4305 and belongs to a new class of sleep drugs which inhibit production of orexins in the brain, blocking stimulation of the brain’s arousal system.
