If you are constantly using a car seat or carriage to aid your child, be wary. Normally they are used to cradle a child to sleep and make sure that they are secure when mobile in vehicles but if this study is any indication, these baby car seats may pose some health issues concerning the breathing of your child.

Many parents think of car seats as a cozy spot for kids to sleep, even outside of the car, because they’re so easy to use. However, these seats, which require infants to be placed in an upright position, can also cause breathing problems when babies sleep in them, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. The seats can compress the chest wall and reduce airway size, which could result in lower oxygen levels in the blood, the researchers found.

So they can be used as temporary means when traveling. But don’t let it carry you away when it comes to nurturing the proper sleep for your child. That is not what they were made to do.
