There are people who are afraid of the dark. Many of us restrict them to the kids today, seemingly afraid of fabled stories that include monsters being around once the lights are out. Of course, we all know that this is a sleep myth to get them to go to bed without any complaints.
However, lights provide a hindrance for people who want to sleep better. The rays and the lights that we usually have to deal with once our eyes are shut are distractions. Now for some people who need light to be able to see things when they have to get up at times, a nightlight will often be around and available.
Sleeping better can be done with the lights off. Dim or dark as much as possible is the best way to get a good night’s sleep. For people who need light at night, well, make it as low as possible. You just cannot deal with a small glimpse of light that may eventually become a distraction and a cause for you not to sleep properly.

As an adult now yes light is a big distraction if I want to sleep, but as a child I could sleep no problem with a light on, eventually we used a dim light and it was more relaxing I admit put me into more of a sleep mood. but i do admit as a child sleeping with lights on it caused sleep paralisis at times and also strange nightmares between sleep and wake, so thats another reason I recomend just to sleep with lights off
