There are various ways where people can make a statement for a cause and here is something interesting where two brothers sleep out in an igloo to raise funds for a children’s charity. The igloo was made by them, using small pints of snow the size of a loaf which gradually increased to the size of actual blocks.

The igloo stands 8 feet tall and was built by Ciaran and Adam Moss. Over the four days of building the igloo, the family became aware of the Saoirse foundation, a charity founded to help brother and sister Saoirse and Liam Heffernan from Castlemaine, Co Kerry, who suffer from the rare Batten disease.

The brothers were provided with plenty of sleeping bags to help them through the cold and all donations were going to the Bee for Battens – Saoirse Foundation charity.

It is indeed the time of giving once again and for their part, Beds R Us is doing something worthwhile; giving beds to the needy. A good night’s sleep is within reach for the folks over at the Coffs Coastal Residents, as Beds R Us announces that it is giving away a dozen mattresses to the people who need them most.

Inspired by the “12 Days of Christmas”, Beds R Us will be giving away 12 Australian made Sleepyhead Queen Mattresses valued at about $599 each. Ten winners will be invited to donate a mattress to the charity of their choice and two winners will get to each take a mattress home.

Here is a touching endeavor for the people in need of better sleep. The initiative comes from the Sleep Experts of Dallas, sharing the gift of sleep to families in North Texas by donating more than 50 mattress sets to the Central Dallas Ministries with the hopes of fighting poverty.

Through Sleep Experts’ Rest Assured mattress donation program, every customer’s old bed is recycled and donated to charity. Upon delivery of a customer’s new bed, the old mattress is removed and completely refurbished and then donated to local nonprofit organizations serving families and children who are victims of abuse, homelessness, poverty or illness.

To date Sleep Experts has provided more than 7,000 beds to the Dallas/Fort Worth community and donated over $500,000 in recycled mattresses, resulting in more than a million nights of sleep for thousands of families in need.

And if you think that isn’t enough, it seems that falling asleep on the sofa makes it entirely traumatic as reports bear the growing number of babies dying due to adults falling asleep on a sofa.

The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) is a charity that aims to prevent sudden death and promote infant health. The FSID also shared that the safest place for a baby to sleep, for the first six months, is in a separate cot in a room with the parent or carer.

There is a new way of helping out the people in need and it comes in what is perhaps the simplest form of unity; sleeping out. And to add some spice to the cause, celebrities will even join the fray, sleeping out at east London’s Spitafield’s market to raise more than £250,000 to help house young homeless people over Christmas. Among the stars expected to join the call are Joe McFadden, Lisa Maxwell and Sara Cox.

More than 200 people are expected to give up their beds for the night in support of the charity, which cares for homeless people aged 16 to 25.
