Sleeping pills can help you sleep but health-wise, there is no question that some health risk is at stake. And apparently if people rely on them too much, there is the possibility of death after a study showed that the said drugs carry a substantially increased risk of death for those who are prescribed. Over a two-and-a-half-year period, they compared the death rates among more than 10,500 people who received sleeping pill prescriptions with those of more than 23,600 others — matched for age, state of health and other factors — who had not received such medication. The average age of the study group was 54. Overall, there have been issues associated with sleeping pills. And while they do intend to help a person get the proper amount of sleep, the side effects persist. This includes increased depression which may eventually trigger suicide if they are not careful. Aside from that, sleeping pills also interfere with motor and cognitive skills, which makes driving dangerous, and can cause sleep apnea, which can lead to heart problems.
While there are people who would prefer to sleep with the lights on, maybe this will change that habit. It seems that sleeping with the light on leads to depression after an experiment that was made. After comparing two sets of hamsters, the researchers concluded that those sleeping in dim lighting exhibited depressive-like behavior, as compared to those sleeping in complete darkness. It seems that the light negatively affects the chemical balance and structure of the brain. So while many would have issues sleeping in the dark, you may want to find an alternative for that. However it seems that this claim is not true. A study was able to prove this, negating the belief that by breastfeeding causes less sleep. This should be a relief for babies in particular since we breastfeeding has always been known to be the best milk for babies. However, due to health (sleep concerns) issues, some mothers have fended off breastfeeding for fear that they may eventually suffer. There has been an “urban myth” that women who breastfeed get less sleep which may cause some to hesitate to do so. Caring for a newborn is challenging enough, without being sleep-deprived, and some research has even suggested poor sleep after childbirth may increase the risk of postpartum depression. A Finnish research bares that snoring among children could lead to depression and anxiety which could eventually lead to attention and language problems for your child’s development. A study conducted from among 99 preschoolers showed that, 43 were who snored showed a higher rate of mood problems. Brain function tests also bared differences in snorers and non-snorers, including decreased attention and language skills among children who snored. Snoring is a common symptom of sleep-disordered breathing, which is caused by obstruction of the upper airway during sleep. Knowing the mental health and developmental impact of sleep-disordered breathing in preschool-aged children will help pediatricians and other health care professionals recognize the underlying sleep problem. Among the leading problems include depression, a main element why people like Samantha Ronson choose to keep themselves busy rather than stay at home to relax and sleep. But mind you, there is a down-side to all of this and it includes sacrificing health due to lack of sleep. Earning a fortune is one thing but the problem is focused on your health. Take it from Ronson, she knows the price to pay for avoiding depression.
Normally, we would have our mobile phones nearby. Possible calls while we are sleeping are a given and we just don’t want to miss them even if it means waking us up from a deep slumber. But while this is a common practice, the radiation that these mobile phones is something to worry about. There are health risks that include headaches, confusion and depression which may be solicited so it is best to read on this. Radiation from mobile phones delays and reduces sleep, and causes headaches and confusion, according to a new study. The research, sponsored by the mobile phone companies themselves, shows that using the handsets before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them, interfering with the body’s ability to repair damage suffered during the day. The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers, most of whom – surveys suggest – use their phones late at night and who especially need sleep. Their failure to get enough can lead to mood and personality changes, ADHD-like symptoms, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance.
