We are all aware of the story of Sleeping Beauty but who would have thought that it would soon be a sickness in our modern age? Well apparently it is around and a 15 year old from Britain is inflicted with it. Louisa Ball got the “disease” when she was 13 after a bout with the flu. Louisa needs to be woken up forcefully or else she would end up sleeping for days or even up to a month! When she does get up, these are only for brief spells. In the end, she was diagnosed with Kleine-Levin Syndrome where research conducted on this relatively rare disease is insufficient for now. The syndrome is unrelated to Narcolepsy where the patients are constantly tired and drop off for brief periods of sleep.
Psychological or not, it doesn’t take a study to affirm that people without a job are finding less reason so sleep well. In fact, some may not even be sleeping at all. Can you imagine trying to survive in this competitive world without any means of income? A recent study by Hyland’s Inc. found that the parts of the United States with the highest unemployment rates wish for more sleep than the rest of the nation. The survey also reported 18 percent of respondents from the West and 20 percent from the Midwest claimed to wake up during the night and have trouble falling back to sleep, the highest percentage of this pattern. The survey found that all over the United States, the economy was the leading cause of stress. This was to be expected. With no work, people often wonder what they could do to survive and perhaps feed their family. On the other hand, some may not be able to sleep well as they hope for the best to once again find themselves employed.
There are growing cases of insomnia and sleep disorders all throughout the world and apparently they are not solely because of anxiety but on their overall mood. At times we find ourselves restless and thinking a lot and if there is one thing that can help us sleep, it is to relax our minds and body. We turn to spas and massage parlors but the power of traditional aromatherapy can really do wonders. Such is the focus of Scent to Sleep as it specializes in the production and distribution of premium aromatherapy essential oils sleeping mist. “The sleep mist has ingredients such as lavender that promotes a calming feeling, so that you can fall asleep without the need of a prescription,” said Harris. “In this economy, you need an edge if you are to survive.
There are a lot of people homeless these days and for sure, they are deprived of the proper sleeping habits mainly because they find themselves in strange places without the benefit of an ideal sleep setting. For the fortunate people like us, we do not have the luxury of understanding such inconvenience. But this cause being made via the Fourth Annual Siouxland Sleep-Out at the Lewis and Clark Park on November 7 should help give us an idea of just how the people without homes manage to sleep despite such outdoor conditions. There are around 21,000 homeless people in Iowa, according to Wood, and about 600 of them live in Siouxland. He said he expects those numbers to continue to grow due to flooding in eastern Iowa and the staggering economy. “Poverty is the basic reason for homelessness, and certainly the poverty level increases as a result of the economy,” he said. “There’s got to be some trickle-down effect for that.” (Source) Sioux City Journal a benefit, economy, homeless people, homelessness, How to sleep better, inconvenience, lewis and clark park, poverty level, proper sleeping habits, sleep, Sleep Events, Sleep Issues, SLEEP News, strange places
a
