Sleep Deprivation can be Contagious
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung April 14th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
As far as married couples are concerned, seeing that your partner is suffering from a sleep disorder may lead to you having the same problem as well. Just picture the image of you having to live with your partner’s snoring or being awake at the improper times of the night. Normally, couples would want their partners by their side so that they can sleep soundly. Now if the case comes that they are not for one reason or another, chances are they will not be able to sleep.
This is only one scenario. Now consider a health-related one when your partner has breathing problems that deprive them sleep. Altogether, you will find an indirect reason for a couple to have a sleep disorder and once that happens, sleep becomes much longed for and becomes utterly contagious.
For those whose severe sleep disorders cause them health problems and may even be putting their lives at risk, a visit to a specialist sleep clinic could be their only hope of a cure. Lack of sleep has serious effects on the body and the brain. It impedes concentration, causes mood swings and over time inhibits the immune system.

Sleep? Don’t Do Drugs!
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung March 29th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleeping Pills.
As far as sleep is concerned, it would be best to solicit it using the natural means and avoid the sleeping drugs that we often see being endorsed. Not all people who have sleep issues have to turn to the sleeping pills offered today. You can still find the alternative means where you do not put your overall health at stake.
Drugs have side effects and can affect other areas of your body. That is a given. But for people who are desperate to resolve their sleeping crisis, drugs can help but only for a while. It will reach a point that your body will become immune and show some ill effects of fabricated means of sleep.
Most of these drugs, used over a long time, tend to lose their benefit. So although you may take more, they will have less effect. Also, once you get into the habit of taking medication to help you sleep, you may have difficulty breaking the pattern.

Working Your Way to Less Sleep

It is commendable to see employees on how much they devote time towards targeting better lives and developmental careers. However, health should not be sacrificed on its behalf. Sleep is one thing that we sacrifice in our drive to be better as far as career is concerned. But what is a career if you end up being at risk as far as your health is at risk.
This is a common image we see in the world today. People aim high but forget about their health. We all want to reach to top. But if we do it this way, we may not even have enough strength to enjoy our accomplishment in the end due to lack of sleep and respite.
“There’s enough data now to clearly show that if you’re not sleeping enough, that’s going to dramatically affect your performance and productivity,” said Mark Rosekind, a former director of the Center for Human Sleep Research at the Stanford University Sleep Center who helped design the poll.

Snoring Can Be A Serious Setback
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung February 22nd, 2008 in Health Issues, Snoring.
We all know that snoring stems from a lot of things. Difficulty in breathing, fatigue or even signs of something abnormal inside of us whenever we shut our eyes. But the fact remains that snoring is serious and the we should not take it lightly. There are things we have to know about snoring and one of the important things about it is looking out after our health.
Indeed, most of us get irritated by sleeping with people who snore a lot. But look beyond the irritating sound and try to guide that person to seek professional help. In the end, you may not only help cure his snoring but also saving his life to determine what is really wrong with him.
Snoring can become a serious medical problem when it disturbs sleeping patterns and deprives the snorer of appropriate rest, according to Dr. Keith Aguilera, a sleep specialist and head of the Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Center at St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Smoking Ruins Sleep Patterns
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung February 11th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
If you are a smoker and you have a hard time wondering why you feel weird in the mornings, chances are you are in that stage where smoking can really have a part on how you can sleep better. We are all aware that smoking does indeed make our health deteriorate and with this new study made by the John Hopkins University School of Medicine, it all the more proves that smoking has a bearing on why you cannot sleep soundly.
Here’s another good reason to put away those cigarettes - a new study shows that smoking can lead to unhealthy sleep patterns, making you feel groggier the next day. Scientists have long speculated that smokers have poorer sleep quality than nonsmokers because of conditions associated with the habit, such as sleep apnea and lung disease. Now, research from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine led by Dr. Naresh M. Punjabi, shows that smoking might be the culprit for decreased sleep quality.
