Sleep Crisis

Read the papers or watch the news, you will see these things as the headlines:
  1. Recession
  2. Rising Prices
  3. War
  4. Economic Downturn
  5. Global Warming

Now if you were the naïve person in the world today, you would not care and simply go your way. All you want to do is to really live your life one day at a time and just try and make do with what you can. Apparently, this is no laughing matter. The world is getting a more hectic place to live in and for sure you will lose a lot of sleep over it.

We all know the value of health as well. We need to sleep and get rest to be able to perform all the things necessary for us to survive. But if we slack a bit, we may lose a lot of things on how we can survive these problems in life. In short, while you have to sleep, who can?

Not included in the list of issues we see today is sleep. Sleep apnea, insomnia and sleep disorders are all growing concerns. They may not be eye-popping issues today but one day they will surely will.

The funny thing is that they may come at a time when all these current events come to be resolved. Now you face a new threat that of which may be aimed towards your health.

Sleep deprivation has been linked with heart disease, obesity, chron ic infections, hypertension, depression . . . and death. It is patently not a good idea to work excessive hours with no sleep, but we are constantly told that, to be an effective, successful and notable individual, this is what we must do. All the evidence suggests that we will make less intelligent judgements without sleep - just as we would if we went for an extended period without, say, food or air - but the pressure is on to prove that we can function anyway.

Sleep Awareness Month

As far as sleep issues are concerned, there is no better time to schedule Sleep Awareness month than in the month of May. To most people, sleep issues are minor, but if you think about it, sleep disorders can become a problem if and when you don’t put it in check.

A lot of people can attest to this fact. Sleep, normally seen as something that can be remedied with the right resources including own will power, has become serious and a threat to a person’s overall risk. Insomnia is becoming serious and has even gone as far as affecting the various human body parts to which people are slowly becoming concerned.

With that in mind, the move to improve on sleep awareness has to start. May has become the month to make it all happen.

If you’re having trouble falling asleep lately, you’re not alone, thousands of Americans survive the day on very little sleep. But that can be unhealthy and even dangerous.

For a lot of people sleep remains at the bottom of the priority list, but a local sleep doctor tells me that can limit your productivity at work and if you’re like me, you’ll be happy to hear, naps are a good thing.

Sleep Retreat

People who go on vacation to various destinations can now consider sleep retreat among the potential agenda for going there. This was apparently the whole concept launched by Dr. Reza Samvat regarding sleep retreat at the Domain Casuarina Beach Resort.

Obviously, this has been targeted towards the people who lack the proper amount of sleep or have been dealing with sleep problems like sleep apnea and insomnia. So if you cannot find proper cure from medication and therapy, why not make your break a sleep retreat session to get to the bottom of this problem.

Basing it on what has been reported, it is really something that will attract people, both sleep disorder patients and the people who simply want some adventure of a different kind.

“The three packages available offer an intense revolutionary program aimed at identifying the major areas contributing to the individual’s sleep issues,” Dr Samvat said.

“It makes the treatment and clinic more accessible to people with busy lifestyles as the packages are intense and concentrated so that results can be achieved in a shorter period.

“Sleep therapy packages are also ideal for the corporate market, such as business executives who lead a high-pressure working lifestyle. The retreat will assist them in re-balancing and improve sleeping cycles.

Sleep Distractions

As far as getting the much required sleeping hours, a lot of people would pay big bucks to know the secrets. But the question would if it would be necessary? Normally, we treat sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia as rash and serious but when you think about it, much of the problem may be due to our doing.

One common thing we can point to is the presence of gadgets that pose more of distractions and temptations rather than sleeping aids. Television and the usual noisy component which you can tune up at any time you wish are just some of the common things that can keep us awake when we feel like it.

So what am I getting at? Well for starters, sleep can be achieved with proper evaluation of ourselves beforehand. There are far more serious problems today but normally, we just have to trace the roots that allowed them to bloom as big problems we face today.

Since sleep deprivation can contribute to loss of productivity and crash your immune system, getting an uninterrupted night’s sleep is a luxury you shouldn’t pass up. One of the key tips requires discipline: put your clock on the bottom shelf. That way, the glow of the digital electronic display would not shine in your face and keep you up at night. By relocating your clock to a different area of your nightstand, if you do wake up, you’ll be less stressed out that you’re losing out on that important sleep.

Health and Sleep

We are all familiar of the fact that the best way to stay away from illnesses and sickness is to make sure we do not abuse our body. This means we have to follow the usual sleeping hours of 6 to 8 hours a day so that our immune system does not give in.

However, there are people who just put in mind that they can more than make up for lost sleep by sleeping on the dead hours where they are idle. Indeed this may sound like a good recourse, but remember that you are now entering another problem and that could fall in the category of Insomnia or Narcolepsy. It only gets worse if you want to live a complicated life so make it simple by sleeping. Besides its free so do not negotiate and tell yourself when to sleep and keep yourself from harm’s way.

“The study of sleep disorders is an emerging science,” said Dr. Omar Hasan, who is board certified in internal medicine, psychiatry and sleep medicine. “We’re learning more all the time, and there is increasing evidence that poor quality sleep is a health concern that needs to be evaluated by a health care professional.”

Among the most common disorders, sleep apnea occurs when something interrupts normal breathing patterns. The patient literally stops breathing several times during the night. It could be as few as 30 times or as many as 180 times or more.

“It’s usually the bed partner who can give us a better idea of what’s going on,” Hasan said. “They hear their partner gasping for breath, snoring or waking up during the night.”
