Good Reasons Not to Live Near an Airport
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung February 13th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News.
Planes flying by and landing at certain times of the day can be a big problem especially if you live nearby an airport. For sure, it is already a given that you will have a hard time sleeping and adjusting to the noise that these air crafts produce. But while not being able to sleep is already an issue, it may escalate as far as affecting our blood pressure levels due to the lack of sleep.
As we can see, there is more to meets the eye when you talk about losing sleep. But when you talk about health problems coming into the picture, you have to take it to another level and try to analyze and determine how your health can manage all the stress and lack of sleep from it all.
“We know that noise from air traffic can be a source of irritation, but our research shows that it can also be damaging for people’s health, which is particularly significant in light of plans to expand international airports,” co-author Dr. Lars Jarup, from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College London, said in a prepared statement.

Senses Going Haywire Due To Lack of Sleep

Sleep plays a vital role in everybody. We all know it helps us recover our used health or even revitalizes us of our drained energy. It is the best way to regenerate battered bodies by simply lying down and resting for at least 6 to 8 hours. But these should be done the normal way that of which is in the normal body clock as evenings.
As far as teenagers are concerned, they are practically victims of lack of sleep. Sometimes they feel that they can take on the world and still keep going like they are 100% sane. But at times, the little things such as mood swings and lack of alertness may become varying marks that make us totally unaware of the things around us. And most of them are because we lack the proper amount of sleep.
“Sleep is one of the first things high school and college students sacrifice to meet academic demands and other goals,” Dr. Franzen added. “This is sort of a public health problem. Kids fall asleep in school; they fall asleep driving cars. There are good statistics on kids having accidents.”

Overweight Linked to Sleep Deprivation

Weight watchers may want to check out other factors than the food they eat. Lack of sleep has been found to be a contributing factor towards why most people, especially the kids, have been suffering obesity issues.
The amount of sleep hours we observe are important. One good insight is the fact that some people have this belief that eating excessively can more than make up for the lack of sleep that kids would normally have to deal with.
There are a number of reasons why a kid would lose the proper amount of sleep:
- Playing games (Playstation or Xbox) on extended hours
- Staying out late with friends
- Cramming to study
- Sleeping area
- Television
- The Internet
These are normally the reasons that kids would state and they are indeed a fact. While it is a the duty of most guardians and parents to make sure that kids sleep at the right time, closer monitoring can be good for their health.
(Source) A study of 7-year-olds has found that sleeping less than nine hours a night was associated with being overweight or obese, even after accounting for amounts of television watching and physical exercise.
The study, being published Tuesday in the journal Sleep, also found that short sleep duration was associated with mood swings. The researchers had followed the subjects — 519 children in New Zealand — since birth, making periodic health and developmental assessments and interviewing their parents.

Sleep Can Cure Learning Deficiency
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung December 8th, 2007 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Education.
Learning is important for the kids of today. While some claim that they squeeze their brains out to make them learn, taking a look at the other side of the fence may render lack of sleep as a probable cause for kids having difficulties learning today.
Minds function practically the whole day. Even during sleep, it functions accordingly despite our subconscious stature. But the difference between being awake and asleep is that the latter acts more on its own without stress. Actually, it recalls the events that transpired during the day, something like flashbacks.
Kids and teenagers today have abused the area of sleep, choosing to have less shuteye to either go out or play their games until the wee hours of the morning. Kids just undervalue sleep today and it is showing its importance by the grades they get from schools.
(Source) Sleep expert Arthur Teng, head of the Sydney Children’s Hospital’s department of sleep medicine, believes many children are being wrongly diagnosed with learning difficulties or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) when all they really need is more sleep.
