A swine flu vaccine is in the hot seat for reportedly rendering some rare and dangerous sleep disorder. Pandermix from GlaxoSmithKline is now undergoing testing by the European Medicines Agency after cases of narcolepsy came up.
Pandermix was used in the UK sometime last year to address the H1N1 epidemic that came out last year. The cases of narcolepsy, in which a person to fall asleep suddenly and unexpectedly, have been reported largely in Sweden and Finland.
Though the name may be different, it is still the same old sleeping drug Lunesta that has been named differently once it is approved for distribution in Europe. Sepracor is reportedly planning to penetrate the Europe market to help insomniacs residing here. However, Lunesta is already a familiar brand and perhaps changing it catered towards the Europeans can help ease the impressions that some have seen as negative due to some issues.
