Trouble Sleeping? Place Flowers in your Room
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 20th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, SLEEP Psychology, Sleep Cures.
Scent coming from lavender has been proven to help us sleep. While I have made previous posts wherein scent plays an integral role of aiding sleep, perhaps it is but fitting that in these hard times where everyone is at a standstill on what tomorrow holds for them.
Lavender in your room can really hit the spot. In fact, if you think about it, you may just find yourself sleeping soundly with the right ambiance and aroma therapy manner of falling asleep perfectly.
Oneirology, the scientific study of dreams, still has a lot to discover (was Freud right to say they reveal unconscious wishes? Are they responsible for déjà vu?).
But even if science still doesn’t know much about dreams, this research was surely worthwhile given that an estimated six years of our lives, or two hours a night, are spent dreaming. At the very least, the results will provide parents with some intellectual ammunition in the all-too-frequent quest to ensure teenage offspring clean their rooms: unpleasant smells, it seems, can influence negative emotions in dreams.

Paci-Plushies Pacifier Holders
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung August 16th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Apnea, Sleep Disorders.
Here is a good accessory for parents who use pacifiers to calm down their crying babies. The gums of an infant usually become itchy at their age since their teeth are slowly developing. At times, using the standard baby bottles may not always do the trick as their usual step would be to bite off the nipples of their feeding bottle to ooze that itch.
One thing that parents really hate though is having to get up at night to look after their child. Pacifiers are a good recourse but at times, you may find it hard to get up and look for them. The next thing you know, you cannot go back to sleep.
The Paci-Plushies may seem optional but at least it helps lessen the need of most parents to get up and find pacifiers. Further, you can simply reach out for them and then go back to sleep.
Sleep deprived parents of pacifier using tots know how exhausting it is to get up out of bed several times a night in order to replace missing pacifies for a wailing child. Paci-Plushies™, a plush pacifier holder which allows infants and toddlers to easily find a dropped pacifier, is scheduled to launch at the ABC Kids Expo in September, 2008.

Sleep Reference: 5 Days to a Perfect Night’s Sleep for Your Child

When all else fails, parents will either ask a sleep specialist or maybe hit the bookstores and look for advice in books that specialize in sleep problems. Well just in case you are one of these worried parents, here is a good book that you can surely check out.
This is a good book that can provide you advice on how to establish appropriate sleep habits for your baby and child. The book is authored by Dr. Eduard Estivil, a director of the Sleep Distrubances Clinic at the Institut Dexeus in Barcelona, Spain. He is likewise a practicing pediatrician and a specialist in sleep medicine.
“Well, now think about what you have been willing to do when your child starts bawling at midnight. You stand on your head, do the hokey pokey, imitate Barney, or try to hypnotize your child by swaying the hanging lamp in front of his little face.
“What is the poor kid going to think? He’ll probably want to grow up as quickly as possible so he can sue you.”

Ferberizing For Better Sleep
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung May 17th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, SLEEP Psychology, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.
We all know that the best way to let go of hang-ups such as emotional stress inside of us can be done through crying. For children, parents would not want to see them cry for the reason that their emotional burden is something their kids should not be tied up with.
Apparently, this issue of allowing kids to cry or called Ferberizing by most is being criticized on whether it is really helping kids sleep better or another form of child abuse. Now regardless of which standpoint you are taking, parenting and resolving the sleep issue is certainly something up in the air for debate and discussion.
What do you think about “cry it out” sleep training? Of our readers, so far “it’s child abuse” and “it’s a miracle” are neck-and-neck at about 25% each (with another 50% torn). When you answer, say what generation you’re from. Our working thesis: Boomers were totally fine with letting their kids figure out how to self-soothe; Gen-Xers, not so much.

Babies Should Sleep Alone Campaign
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung May 12th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP Gadgets, SLEEP News, Sleep Events, Sleep Issues.
Normally, parents would not want their babies to be left out alone when they sleep. However, due to the rising cases of baby deaths due to sleep, a campaign has been launched to provide awareness and added safety for infants who unknowingly become endangered species due to overlooked parenting tactics.
This is not really to take away anything from parents who want to provide only the best for their child. But there are limits and this includes looking out for the welfare of a child in terms of sleeping soundly.
“Our goal is to really help parents, grandparents, daycare providers and others be aware of the importance to putting babies to sleep in a safe environment, which is typically a bed of their own,” says Sharon Chesna from the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network.
If a parent or caregiver wants the keep the child close, parents should move the crib near their bed.
