Soft is not safe as far as Dr. Rachel Moon is concerned. This conclusion however is not a new one. If you recall, pillows or cushions have been found to be dangerous for babies who sleep. Issues such as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) or accidental suffocation therein have become key problems which make them hazards for babies. Having pillows and cushions do indeed make sleeping comfortable for babies, in the same way that we adults find comfort in them. However, as far as babies are concerned, doctors recommend the use of “firm sleep surfaces” which really means a bed with a sheet that is put over the pillows and tucked tightly. This is another study you may have come across, so just consider it a reminder that whatever we think that is comfortable may not necessarily be hold true all the time. Babies deserve all the comfort of course but looking out for the realities as far as their manner of sleeping is another.
Alarms via iPhones is nothing new but something different seems to be intended if you constantly hit the snooze option for this iPhone app. The alarm app apparently donates a quarter each time you hit the snooze option in the Snooze for iPhone app. And mind you, this is not a forced contribution but rather asks you twice in a month which non-profit organization you would want to donate, that is if you would care. The app seems to be more of a reminder on how we can do our part to donate to charitable institutions. The app acts more of a reminder that the more we snooze, the more we should be made aware of what we can contribute when we are awake. Although the app may seem to be something that could help us sleep more as long as we do our part as far as donations are concerned, it may have consequences as sleeping longer and probably going to school or work late despite being bugged by reminders on donating. The app is cool for added sleep but as far as the donation part is concerned, it seems to lack something to really make it effective.
When it comes to getting the right quality of sleep for toddlers, it all boils down to how you lay down and of course which stuff you have lying around. But thanks to the efforts of groups like Cloud B which has worked in hand with pediatricians and specialists on the issue of sleeping, some new products to aid sleep were developed to help promote a safe, sound and healthy sleep for children, and subsequently their parents. Leading the pack is a Twilight Sea Turtle, it not only provides people lights, sounds and smell but a reminder as well towards the endangered animals. So as a whole, it is a combination of putting together eco-friendly issues and getting the healthy sleep that kids and parents both need today. Other items that are (or will be) available include the Polar Bear Cub, the Dozy Dolphin, and Penguin, all of which use some combination of soy-based and/or bamboo fabrics and hypo-allergenic stuffing.
