Giving up Sleep for Success
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung July 18th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Apnea, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues. We have always been told, if you want to succeed in anything you do, be ready for sacrifice. Now along that line, you have to think if sleep is included. Success comes in a lot of ways such as needing to extend the times you are awake so you can think and not wasting a single second so that you can be able to cover everything as much as possible.
But while this is something that can really push you towards the success, it is your health due to lack of sleep that is eventually going to suffer. Constant thinking, anxiety and unresolved issues to make sure that deals or even your current business will not flunk are among the things that keep you awake. While you are being worried about how to grow your business and get rich, eventually you may find all that money useful after all. Unfortunately for paying your hospital bills since you have so much disregarded your overall health.

“There will be periods in life where you have to give up sleep so you can accomplish something big,” Krieger says. “Just know that you can only do that for a certain period of time or there will be long-term consequences.”

Can New Moms Sleep Better After Giving Birth?
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung July 16th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Issues.
After laboring for 10 months, once mothers give birth, you have to wonder if they can now start looking forward to making up for lost sleep. Apparently this is a problem for pregnant women who need to ensure the overall health of the child they are bearing and of course themselves. Alertness and being aware of what is going on inside these 10 months is indeed tedious. Some would call it a sacrifice for the sake of bringing joy and life to the world once more.
So when the child is out, can a mom sleep better? Highly unlikely considering now they have to take care of the child. Sleep deprivation starts to set in and apparently a newborn child will always look for her mother.
A mother can lie down in bed. But that does not mean that they can sleep through it. For sure they will wake up ever so often and once that happens, you have to sacrifice some more; this time for putting the baby to sleep so you too can sleep!

Managing Jetlag through Food Intake

For most people who have to travel a lot, you will certainly stumble into certain periods where you have to adjust to the time zone of a certain country. For some countries like traveling from the Philippines to the United States, there are varying differences in time like 12 hours of difference.
In these cases, you will often find yourself supposedly sleeping at their peak time to which you have to adjust because your body will not be able to take it for sure. However, one element in all of this can make a difference and this has to do with the food and meals that this voyager would take in between the time shifts.
“A period of fasting with no food at all for about 16 hours is enough to engage this new clock,” says Prof Saper, who did the work with Drs Patrick Fuller and Jun Lu.
“So, in this case, simply avoiding any food on the plane, and then eating as soon as you land, should help you to adjust - and avoid some of the uncomfortable feelings of jet lag.”
The next time you have to adjust your sleeping period, consider the meals you take. A small fasting sacrifice can really make a difference.

Cramming Adds To Sleepless Nights
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung November 25th, 2007 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, Sleep Issues.
This issue covers most students, particularly the ones who have a problem with doing advanced studies and preparations as far as their school work is concerned. Essays and thesis papers require some time to finish and while preparatory stages are given at their convenience, kids and teens simply wait for the last minute before they even think of doing some work to avoid cramming and getting sleepless nights ahead.
Cramming is a common mentality that is experienced everywhere. The usual belief is if you can sacrifice a day or two’s sleep, then you have no problem. But mind you, there are a lot of factors to consider as well such as time constraints when you cram.
Further, you may not turn in quality work, something prevalent when you lack sleep since your mind needs to rest too. In the end, both efforts are deemed as futile. You don’t get decent grades and you end up sacrificing your health in the process.

Never Blame the Baby!

The responsibilities involved in having a child and of course making sure that they grow up to be as healthy as possible include that of sacrifice. Unfortunately, this includes having to initially give up some sleep whenever a child wakes up in the middle of the night. Some may not be too inclined, calling it stressful but they should also consider that kids normally have to be monitored and attended to during their infant years.
It is not too much to ask. The joy of having a child is indeed exciting for all. But when it comes to the part of responsibility, for sure sleep will be at the tops of the list of deprived privileges that people once used to have.
