Bionovo May Solve Menopausal Hot Flashes
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 15th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
One thing about sleep deprivation in women is that when they have hot flashes during sleep, tendency is for them to get up and do the necessary to ease the discomfort. While there are a number of ways to go about it, sleep is something that serves as collateral damage as it is also affected when pains of menopausal disorders strike.
But thanks to this ongoing solution from Bionovo, women may yet see the last of these issues as the Emeryville business (NASDAQ: BNVI) had already reported positive results from a Phase II trial of the drug, saying patients had fewer hot flashes than women taking a placebo.
If all goes well, then perhaps women no longer have to worry about these issues and finally get the much deserved sleep that they have long deserved.

Medical Interns Need to Sleep and Slow Down As Well
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung September 9th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues. While most of the world may be seeking treatment for their various sleep issues, the growing number of patients may soon include interns who look after these medical seeking individuals. Just like the patients diagnosed with various sleeping irregularities like sleep apnea and insomnia, if the proper volume of patients to be handled is not normalized, chances are these medical interns may also need sleep solutions similar to this post two months ago for doctors.
The relationship is quite similar. People cure people but in the process, while most of them want to help as many people as they can, it still remains that they have to consider the fact that these interns have to look after themselves as well.
Interns were on-call for about 30 hours, getting an average of 2.8 hours of sleep. Early in the academic year, every patient admitted while they were on-call reduced their sleep by an average of about 10 min and increased shift duration by about 13 min. Being on-call at night and early in the academic year was linked with the most sleep deprivation and longest work hours. The higher the number of previously admitted patients in the interns’ care during a shift, the less likely they were to participate in educational activities.

Angelina Jolie Feeling the Effects of Motherhood
1 Comment Published by Brian Yalung August 31st, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, Narcolepsy, SLEEP Celebrity, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.
Raising one child is one thing but to take care of 6 is another. We are all aware that new mothers have that problem with adjusting to their new sleeping habits so you can just imagine how it would be like to take care of 6 babies, which includes twins, at night.
No other than sensational actress Angelina Jolie can attest to the fact that she is suffering from sleep deprivation but you will not hear her complaining. Something that is perhaps least expected from a hyperactive and on the go celebrity seems to be setting its toll as reported by one UK tabloid on the Lara Croft star.
“She’s in tears up to three times a day and so tired that Brad’s found her collapsed asleep in the bath twice, the UK gossip magazine Now reports, citing a source.
“She’s been working around the clock, breast-feeding the babies and trying to get them to sleep. But as soon as one of them drops off, the other wakes up for another feed.
“She’s also not eating very much right now and blames that on being busy. The doctor says that she needs more calories to gain strength and ensure that her breast milk is healthy.”

Keep Pets Away from Your Kids
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung August 22nd, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Issues, Snoring.
Snoring is something many are now aware of being a health risk and if you are not careful, your kids may develop them if you don’t keep the pets away. In fact, don’t get them pets at all since this study by Karl Franklin of University Hospital in Umea, Sweden revealed that kids exposed to pets such as cats and dogs are susceptible to various germs that may contribute to the inflammatory processes and thereby alter upper airway anatomy early in life.
While we have a hard time to tell our kids no, this time around, we just have to and explain to them that it is all for their own good!
Snoring is no laughing matter. Besides sleep deprivation — for the snorer, and especially for anyone within earshot — snoring is linked to more serious consequences.
It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart attacks or a stroke, and can even result in premature death.
