As we have said again and again, the type of mattress that a person lies one could be the total difference when it comes to getting much needed sleep. But the Maglev Bed should offer you something better, a levitating experience if you may. Apparently this is due to the fact that the bed makes use of some special materials. These come in the form of the super powerful neodymium opposing magnets that are placed between the two layers of the bed. The whole bed was made by a certain user named Mememetatata from Reddit. Overall, the bed seems as simple as they come. But when you think about magnets interacting, you know for a fact that some motion of sorts may render a tendency of the bed to slide off from one side to another. In short, the bed relies heavily on magnetism which is the prime reason for the floating experience that people may expect to get from sleeping (or at least try) on it.
A study has revealed that sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) or more popularly known as sleep apnoea carries an increased risk of cancer mortality. The study comes from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health where lead author Dr. F. Javier Neto showed a nearly five times higher incidence of cancer deaths in patients with severe SDB. The participants underwent overnight sleep studies that include polysomnography – an all-night recording of sleep and breathing – and many other tests at four-year intervals. The studies are conducted in a specially designed unit at the federally funded UW Institute for Clinical and Transitional Research Center (ICTR). After adjustment for age, sex, body mass index, and smoking, his study found that both all-cause and cancer mortality were associated with the presence and severity of SDB in a dose-response fashion. People with severe SDB died of cancer at a rate 4.8 times higher than people with no sleep breathing problems. The study will be presented at the American Thoracic Society 2012 International Conference in San Francisco.
Analyzing and keeping a track record of a person’s sleep patterns would normally mean having to use various accessories to properly monitor one’s sleeping patterns. However, technological breakthroughs has made it possible to offer solutions without having to deal with such inconveniences. That is where the SleepBot Android app comes in. The app comes free and intends to help in tracking a person’s sleep patterns. It tracks, logs and analyzes sleep patterns and credit goes to two college sophomores who had sleep issues themselves back in 2010. “To be honest, it didn’t start off as a business,” she says. “We have a goal to actually help people. But, we know that it’s possible now because of the demand of people who want to do this for sleep.” And with that, the said app is now manned by a three-man team based in New York where the app offers users a way to track sleep, set alarms, get sleep tips and view stats online.
A new Danish study has revealed that kids who co-sleep with their parents are likely to reduce the risk of dealing with obesity. The unofficial reason given behind this is that kids who co-sleep with their parents are likely to feel a greater sense of emotional support compared to the ones who sleep on their own which are categorized as rejected. The findings are indeed informative but it makes you think, how does this fit in with the whole SIDS issue? Apparently, a non-disclosed fact here is the kid’s age. SIDS covers mostly babies who would have limitations compared to older kids who in one way or another already have developed bodies and can sound off if there is something that may harm them. While we cannot really generalize, an inkling feel on what issues may befall such still remains. Finding out a solution for obesity would be great but putting it alongside the SIDS issue makes you think twice. Beds may be around but at times, folks may find themselves sleeping in couches, regardless of their shape and make. And for curiosity sake, here is a couch that may very well be odd but reliable. It is the No35 Automatica Carcanapé, a car-shaped couch from fashion studio Bless. It is made of soft gray fabric and can be easily placed in the living room if your bedroom is all filled up. What makes the No35 Automatica Carcanapé interesting is the designer’s attention to detail. The car-shaped couch places emphasis right until the side mirrors and even the wiper blades. Overall, it is a reliable couch you can sleep on, especially for folks who may end up being too tired to head on to their bedroom after a hard day’s work.
Hearing about drivers falling asleep while driving is something that could befall anyone and car manufacturer Mercedes Benz is taking note. In fact it looks like they may have a solution for the drivers with their Active Comfort Concept system, something that could save more lives and provide fatigued drivers the necessary shuteye while the vehicle is parked. With the new system, drivers can get some power naps and be more alert once they are awake. This should help assure healthier and safer driving for the drowsy drivers while also providing some fuel-saving features as well. Among the different methods that the Active Comfort Concept system would bring include addressing the cabin lighting, music, massaging seats and subtle aroma, key elements that should make sure that drivers get some sleep when needed. The said system will be debuting in future MB vehicles. Unfortunately, it was not stressed for now which and if all models would actually come with the said feature.
For people who are on the go, you don’t have to limit yourself to what you can carry or request when you are travel-bound. Pillows would be easy to carry or maybe you can even request for them along with some blankets on flights or maybe train rides. But if you have the Burton Sleeper Travel Hoodie, why bother? The whole thing looks like a standard hooded sweatshirt that people may have these days but this one comes with an integrated pillow. With it, you can sleep in any which way you wish wherever you may go and enjoy all the stuff that you would look for when it comes to some quality Zzzs. The integrated pillow is found at the hood area. All you have to do is blow it up and you get an instant pillow that will provide the necessary neck support for better naps. Aside from the pillow, the Burton Sleeper Travel Hoodie comes with other features like a passport pocket and an integrated toothbrush. Overall the Sleeper Hoodie seems to have all the bases covered, its body of course serving as the blanket in case it gets a bit chilly. It retails for about $99.00 … Continue reading →
a

When it comes to getting the right sleeping bags when you plan to go camping and rough it a little, you are bound to expect the necessary discomforts that one would usually enjoy in their homes. In fact, among them include the proper ventilation to ensure you properly get the right temperature when you try and sleep your darnest best in the outdoors. Sleeping bags are normally as simple as you can get but this customizable sleeping bag comes with a lot of zippers that should offer you the ventilation you would need. There are about 4 to 5 zippers that this sleeping bag has, apparently positioned in various parts targeting your body to make sure that you get the proper temperature for that body part when needed. It may not be all that surprising should a person decide to unzip them all, depending on the climate where you may be using it of course. But then again, another problem arises in the form of those pesky mosquitoes which may carry diseases. Regardless though, give this sleeping bag some credit for being so flexible. In case you want to get a hold of it, it costs around $120 from Hammacher … Continue reading →
a

Mother’s Day is being celebrated right now and while this post may come a bit too late, there is still time for those who are still celebrating it as we speak. Celebrating Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, if you think about it, it could be in different forms. This could be doing the chores on behalf of your mom like cleaning or maybe even some laundry. But if you want a no-brainer of a gift to give, why not just allow your mom to simply get a good night’s sleep even for just a day. Especially for mom’s that have a lot of kids around, sleep may be hard to come by. For husbands or even teens to yuppies, taking on the role of your mom for just a day could come a long way. Not much effort I know but as far as health is concerned, moms need to recharge too you know. Their health will surely welcome such an opportunity and it doesn’t even need to cost you a single dime to do so. Bringing along multiple stuff will surely be a bane for most but thanks to new multi-functional items like the Exped Ergo Combi Hammock should make it lighter and enjoyable to rough it when you need want. The Hammock can be also a tent when you want. But the bottom line of it all is that you are protected and given a reliable medium when you need to rest and get some sleep. The Ergo Combi offers a horizontal sleeping system. The ropes are found on the sides and are used as a diagonal suspension system to support its body. The hammock with suspension kit weighs 34 oz (963 g) and the tarp adds another 23 oz (652 g). Depending upon your usage, 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg) may be a little heavy (you could get a number of two-person tents under that weight).
Although it seems that the Myndplay technology was made to aid the hot-headed athletes in sports like football, the technology could be a great aid as well for people who think too much and thus loose sleep. This could of course vary. It could range from personal problems, office issues or for some people who have a lot of hang-ups to which they have reached their boiling point. Apparently, the Myndplay Technology can read a person’s state of mind whereby their temperament can be analyzed and put into check. Once worn, users will have to play computer games that require you to make a character walk across a narrow beam. The whole process would require a person to be really calm and failure to do achieve the goal would mean repeating the whole process until they succeed. Of course, there is an issue on whether it could really help a person with the said activity. But for people who would keep on trying and fail, at least it keeps them busy and may eventually make them sleepy from trying with the notion that perhaps a good night’s sleep can refresh them and provide new tactics the next time they awaken. … Continue reading →
a

While some people continue to look for caffeine to keep themselves awake, the problem at times is how to stop and start getting much needed sleep. Flushing out the caffeine is easier said than done but if all else fails, perhaps these pills could be a good alternative. They are called the Rutaesomn De-Caffeinating Chill Pills. They are made with a certain fruit that reportedly helps speeds up the body’s metabolism and hence get the consumed caffeine out of one’s body. 2 to 4 pills are recommended prior to bedtime to help an individual’s body metabolize faster. The pills are non-habit forming and each bottle contains about 30 pills. They are available from Thinkgeek for about $15.99.
When you talk about sleeping with fishes, it is of course something like having a common fish bowl by your bedside which some folks do have at home. Unfortunately, that is not what is really meant here. Rather this is with reference to an underwater hotel in Dubai which, when done, would allow you to actually sleep in style and the wonders of the habitats under the sea. This is the Discus Hotel and Resort which is made of two levels. It embraces the same concept that an oil platform carries when you talk about the underwater structure, complete with the usual amenities that hotels normally have. To back that reputation up, the UAE-based developer Drydocks World has signed a contract with Swiss firm BIG InvestConsult to built the Discus.
Here is another sleeping bag for you to check out. While it may seem like a standard one, the Chrysalis Sleeping Bag from Snugpak comes with a handy feature in the form of built-in LED lights which should be neat for people who are afraid of the dark or maybe those who want to read a little before they sleep. The LED light should be a great way as well to guide you in the dark, especially when you think about the outdoors which do not normally give you the benefit of lighting. And since it is LED, you can bet it will last longer than most bulbs. The light fits into a small pouch over your head, where it’s readily available when you need it. If you want one on hand, you can get one for about $81. Definitely a must-have for kids who plan to sleep in the outdoors or when camping plans draw near.

OSA is a sleep issue whereby the breathing of an individual is interrupted during brief intervals. Ideally, a CPAP machine would be recommended by specialists to somehow remedy such a sleep problem, a bit irritating considering you may have to wear a mask when you are sleeping. However, a trip to the dentist may offer another solution in the form of mouth pieces, oral pieces that open up the jaw to provide a bigger airway for people. With over 40 available oral appliances, it may take more than one try to get the proper one to fit an individual. Temporary devices used on a trial basis can cost $150. We are not referring of course to the design alone as you can see above. Rather, the sleep mask has an added feature which should bring more dreams lucidly. All this is made possible with the mask’s embedded red LED lights when worn. There are six LED lights on the inside which blink periodically when a person is asleep. This stimulates a person’s visual field which reportedly increases the occurrence of lucid dreams. For now the Remee Lucid Dreaming Sleep Mask remains a project since the people behind it are looking for ways to fund it all.
We have heard of one night stands or passes that men make to pick up girls and get them into bed. This would normally undergo a lengthy chit chat or maybe a round of drinks until they get so tipsy that they may no longer know what they are doing. But did you know that the easiest way to determine if a woman would likely sleep with you is the color of the dress she is wearing? Apparently through a study conducted by the University of South Brittany psychologists showed that women in red are most likely to end up in bed with men. With about 120 male undergraduates acting as the volunteers, a woman was asked to don different colored tops. This included red, blue, green or white. Using a questionnaire, the men were asked to rate how attractive the woman would be for each color. This included rating the likeliness of how the woman would likely have agree to sex when wearing the usual colors. As it turned out, red was the color that stood out. The sequence for rating were red, white, blue and green. But at times, wearing a bra may not necessarily be the most comfortable position when you sleep. That is unless of course it is one of these specially made ones like the Oyasumi Goodnight Keep Bra. The Bra helps maintain firm busts even while sleeping so that women will wake up feeling and looking good. The Bra should be a perfect alternative to women who are conscious about their breasts and for $15, this is a good investment for the women who want to maintain their form all the time. Weird as it may seem, Professor Chris Idzikowski, of the director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service shared how certain sleep positions can tell much of a person. Among the sleep positions is called the curled up on your side position or the fetus. According to him, about 41% of people in his study slept this way and is a more popular sleeping position among women. As far as personality is concerned, people who sleep this way are shy at first but later on relax. There is also the “log position”. This is when people lie down on their side with both arms down. These people are said to be easy going and often want to be part of a crowd. There is also the soldier position whereby an individual lies on his back with both arms in front. The concept may not necessarily be new, seeing photo shops like Kodak doing the trick to you. But you may want to check out these throw pillows from Instagram. The pillows are called the Stitchagram, a new way to share memories or have them by your side. Through their website, you can easily design and produce your customized pillow/s based on your liking. With that, you simply pick out the pictures you may like, have them embedded on the said pillows and you get a memorabilia for your collection or something that can come in handy when you sleep or as a plain home decor you can place by the sofa or a chair. The Snorepin is said to be an advanced solution to help resolve sleep apnea and snoring where the advanced design saves lungs. The Snorepin helps reduce dry mouths and provides better airflow with its anatomic conical shape. The little slits on the surface let your nosehair catch airborne particles and prevent them from reaching your lungs. You will sleep much better and healthier.
With the 2012 Olympics just around the corner, the need to be prepared as far as the data centers behind the prestigious event is seen as very critical. And with the need to be on top of things 24/7, modular sleep pods will be a big help to the data center engineers who are expected to have their hands full round the clock once the London Olympics commence. Podtime will be offering the on-site sleep pods to the engineers to provide occasional naps and relaxation and of course the necessary sleep to make sure that they are on their feet as far as monitoring the servers which will be nearby. The pods are stackable and will come with standard mattresses, a shelf, mirror, LED lights and a lockable door for individual privacy. It is practically a small room that they can retreat to. They are priced starting at £1,375. Via a 2012 olympics, clock, mattresses, naps, olympic data, pods, prestigious event, relaxation, servers, sleep, SLEEP Gadgets
a

People tend to sleep better knowing they have a sense of security and most of the time, this is all tied up with the notion you have firearms or guns nearby. Especially if you live in rowdy and unsafe suburbs, having one for the purpose of self-defense can really take a load off. But for some, storing them away may be a problem and getting to them may become a problem. However, that may not be the case if you have one of the BedBunkers, a bed design that can reportedly store about 35 rifles and 70 handguns. Now that is a lot and also, you don’t have to worry about anyone easily finding them since they are technically all “under a mattress” This is of course like a big safe that you may be lying on, something that weighs a whopping 1,300 pounds without any firearm in it still. BedBunkers start at $2,200 for the twin size, and go up to $4,200 for a Cal King.
Normally, people would not want to sleep alone and would rather have something or someone to cling on. But a study seems to think otherwise. A research team from Central Queensland University found that having a partner would be more disruptive than the usual irritating noise that people would complain about. With about 13,000 people participating in a poll, 70 percent had been woken during the night; 35 percent were woken by a partner snoring, going to the bathroom, answering calls or checking emails during the night. Other factors were also taken into consideration such as animals (29.1 percent), neighbors (18.5 percent), traffic (12.7 percent) and rain (16.9 percent) While the study does make sense, it is bound to solicit some reactions, probably violent at that. But then again, the study is something the sleep-deprived may want to check out – whether you like it or not. But leave it to the geniuses to come up with something lush such as the Kamp Rite’s Midget Bushtrekka. The bike comes with a little pop up camper that should provide you with a reliable camper to sleep on wherever you may go. The spacious tent boasts of 41 gallons of storage space and comes with uni-wheels that should make it flexible when it comes to moving from one place to another. While it doesn’t seem to offer anything fancy compared to the other pillows we have posted lately (like the vibrating and music-integrated ones), the pillow should be a simple and functional one to use. The pillow comes with a neatly printed image of French bulldog which acts as the cover of the lightweight woven cotton pillow. The pillow should be neat for travel, by the couch or of course by your bedside which should be great for people wanting something to cuddle and hold on to when they want some sleep. The Albert the French Bulldog Pillow is available from Urban Outfitters for about $24. Apparently, they come in polygonal patterns to render that unique feel that some people would prefer as far as pillows are concerned. And for the folks who have some beddings of the same nature, the whole design may be what is left to complement and complete their overall setup. However for a stiff price of $87, you have to wonder if these Polygonal Pillows are worth it. We all know how wise it is to invest and come up with useful relaxing and sleep aids in the form of pillows but for a price and queer design, some people may think otherwise.
A lot of apps that have something to do with sleep have certainly come out thus far and now we find yet another one for the people who want to measure their sleep quality. This is the Sleep Time app from Azumio, something that can be used with an iPhone. The app measures a person’s movement during sleep as well as the different phases of one’s sleep cycle. Apparently, the app was created to wake a person at the right moment, something that seems to be pretty much critical when it comes to sleep-related issues. The proper timing of waking up a person is apparently critical, especially if you think about how good or groggy they become when they get up. Sleep Time analyzes your subtle movements throughout the course of the night, graphing your sleep cycles, and wakes you up at the right time. All you have to do is leave the app on your mattress. Located in Tepoztian, Mexico, you can book yourself and sleep in a different kind of way abroad over at the T3arc Architecture’s Tubo Hotel. They have made use of recycled concrete pipes which do have some limitations due to its make. For one, it can only hold one queen-sized bed, fan, lighting and limited storage below the beds. And perhaps the best part about them is that they are cheaper to stay in, giving you more savings as far as sleeping soundly is concerned. Rooms for two start at $300 pesos (about $24) and go up to $600 pesos (about $47) for ground floor tubes and $400 pesos (about $32) and shoot up to $700 pesos (about $55) for a “top-of-the-pyramid tube for those who live in the clouds.” Via a amenities, architecture, beds, clouds, concrete pipe, concrete pipes, hotel destinations, hotels, How to sleep better, lighting, mexico, queen sized bed, sleep, storage, tubes, tubo
a

As most people gear up for their various activities, making sure that they get something reliable and safe to sleep in outdoors are bound to be one of the more important itineraries above anything else. And while there are the usual tents, here is a tent that should pose as a yummy solution for people wanting to ensure that they sleep out in style. This is the FieldCandy Tent is something neatly designed to look like a slice of watermelon, an odd yet delicious outdoor sleeping solution. Aside from the watermelon design, there are other ones available too. This includes a sandwich, an American flag and a book. But with a specialized design comes a price. These tents cost roughly about $785, a high price to pay to sleep in style. Via a american flag, itineraries, other ones, sandwich, sleep, SLEEP Gadgets, tent, tents, watermelon
a

However, take out that paranormal cliché tied up to them and you may just find them lovable to hug especially for people who simply cannot sleep by simply lying down. There is Slimer and the Marshmallow Man, two characters that would initially scare you at first sight but certain to be something cute and huggable once you understand who they really are. And aside from being huggable, they do come with some extra features. Squeezing a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man will result in the Ghostbusters theme song played back while Slimer will belch out a familiar gross noise, adding some color when you want some harmless playtime.
This is not the first time we will be seeing a specialized pillow made to help people sleep better. Aside from looking like a standard but overgrown teddy bear, this cuddly robot pillow from the Kabe Group looks to address the issue of sleep apnea as well. The cuddly pillow comes with a movable robotic arm which gently nudges a person to his side when his breathing is interrupted and snoring starts to occur. To monitor a person’s breathing abnormalities, there is a pulse oxymeter worn on a person’s finger which determines when the blood oxygen dips or when breathing has stopped. Design-wise, the pillow does leave a lot to be desired but considering that the cuddle robot pillow remains a concept, you can imagine further enhancements that are bound to be applied to it along the way.
Obesity and sleep deprivation issues are already health risks on their own and when you combine both, it may lead to a serious death risk. Sleeping pills have their share of issues and as per findings by a family physician and epidemiologist from the Jackson Hole Centre for Preventive Medicine, obese persons may want to beware. It seems that people suffering from obesity are seen as vulnerable and such would be catastrophic for people taking sleeping pills. Pills were found to be tied with longer pauses in breathing and from there you can see how the mortality rate may eventually set in, with reference to breathing problems for the people having their share of obesity problems. These findings are based on the Scripps Clinic-led study of almost 40,000 patients, according to a Scripps Clinic statement. Rather, the tent is held in tension, using the elongates that collect at each of the three high level anchor points. When installed, the tent projects a triangular shaped tent, suspended and promises to provide the necessary comfort when you require it even if you are in the outdoors. The tent is made from polyester fabric. The tent is fire and water proof which should make sure that you worry less when you want to sleep in the wild. The Tentstile is available in various sizes and can hold up to eight people.
It is no secret that people who need to adjust their sleep habits may have health issues and with the expected implementation of the Daylight Savings Time, it is perhaps easy to say that you should watch out for your heart. According to University of Alabama at Birmingham associate professor Martin Young, Ph.D., in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease, the chances of suffering a heart attack is higher rises the Monday and Tuesday following DST. Apparently there is no definite reason associated with the said issue although it seems that it all boils down to the body or Circadian clock to which human cells are run. “The internal clocks in each cell can prepare it for stress or a stimulus. When time moves forward, cell clocks are anticipating another hour to sleep that they won’t get, and the negative impact of the stress worsens; it has a much more detrimental effect on the body.” Via a associate professor, cardiovascular disease, clock, daylight savings time, definite reason, detrimental effect, Health Issues, Health Issues, heart attack, heart risk, human cells, implementation, internal clocks, negative impact, professor martin, sleep, stimulus, stress, university of alabama, university of alabama at birmingham
a

Among them include the proper relaxation and climate which would normally require a special kind of pillow, massager or heater. But with the Microwavable Yutapon Heater you get a portable device that requires no batteries to run and portable to bring anywhere. Named after the Japanese word for hot water bottle (yutanpo), the Microwavable Yutapon Heater seems like a familiar gel pack that many have used at one time or another for cold or warm compress needs. The covers are easily washable while the inside of each Yutapon comes with a special gel pack that retains and releases heat slowly. They are available for about $30 over at the Japan Trend Shop just in case you want something nifty to have, especially if you live in cold climate places.
