After a few restless nights, most of us can’t even think straight.
We are all aware that sleep deprivation is a growing issue. Seeking medical help from people who have conquered such a sleep problem may be a good way to find resolutions to such a problem. While we all know the usual suspects leading to sleep deprivation, it would be best to post them once again so that people can remember the problems that are occurring when sleep deprivation sets in. Exercise regularly. Avoid caffeine after mid-day. Go to bed when you’re tired. Don’t spend time in bed worrying about falling asleep. That’s just going to stress you out more. Get up and do something relaxing in another room, and return to bed when you’re ready. Learn relaxation techniques. Focus on your breathing or imagine being in your favorite place. Maintain a routine. Changing your sleep schedule dramatically on Friday and Saturday nights can lead to tiredness the next Monday morning. Consider melatonin as the hormone is a natural sleep aid. Apparently, some scientists from Wake Forest University have been able to determine another area of sleep deprivation. This largely deals with the brain secretions called Orexin-A. Whenever we are asleep, it usually follows that there are certain internal human body processes that occur and from the looks of it, this identified secretion of hypocretin-1 may yet help solve the growing issue of sleep deprivation and narcolepsy.
Noise barrages come in different forms but if you are resident, ideally your place would solicit an overall sound of silence. With these silence and convenient moods, people would normally find themselves looking forward to lying on their bed and taking that long deserved nap. As long as it is quiet that is. But for people living in the urban neighborhoods, it may sometimes be an issue with regards to peace and order especially when construction and renovation is concerned. Now whenever construction sets in, chances are you will have to deal with the noise by jackhammers and constant hammering of walls. Now once the noise issues set in, sleep deprivation starts. It is a good thing to deal with them every once in a while. But the aftermath is really something that needs to be considered. Sleep is a sensitive endeavor, people just have to find ways to deal with it. The problem is acute near the Al Sadd Plaza area, where work is going on in full swing for day and night at three or four … Continue reading →
a

DOHA • Residents in Al Sadd area are spending sleepless nights due to noise generated by relentless construction activities around the locality.

The problem is acute near the Al Sadd Plaza area, where work is going on in full swing for day and night at three or four construction sites.

While most people would have their own set of tips that include reading a book, counting sheep or even drinking warm milk, it is best to have a good reference and guide on what you can consider to improve your sleeping habits. Indeed, sleeping has become a hindrance to most people and their health may be put into question. Most people who have to deal with the sleep deprivation problems will probably do anything to be able to sleep better and improve on their health risks tied up with the sleepless nights they have to deal with. While most people would have their own set of tips that include reading a book, counting sheep or even drinking warm milk, it is best to have a good reference and guide on what you can consider to improve your sleeping habits.

Indeed, sleeping has become a hindrance to most people and their health may be put into question. While others may feel that they can overcome sleepless nights, it would be best to be more attentive at sleep disorders once you want to hit the sack.

1) Avoid watching TV before bed…especially in bed!- The bed should be reserved for two things…sleep and romance…not Desperate Housewives or football! Research shows that those who experienced the most sleep disturbances had televisions in their bedrooms and used the TV to fall asleep.

2) Try a different pillow or mattress. It’s scary to think how long some of us have been sleeping on the same pillows and mattresses for years and years. Does your mattress provide the support you like? Do you wake with your back aching? Is there enough room for you and your sleep partner? Do you sleep better, or worse, when you sleep away from home? These are all things to ask yourself to determine if your mattress could be the “sabotager” of your good night’s sleep. Or more simply, just replacing your pillow with a new, fresh, higher quality version could be all that you need.

3) Avoid caffeine late in the day. Did you know that even a small amount of caffeine even 10-12 hours before bedtime can cause problems falling asleep! Try eliminating the tea, soda and even chocolate and see if sleep improves.

4) Listen to relaxing music. Establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, such as listening to music, could be just the thing you need to signal your body it is time to sleep. So, dim the lights and throw some slow jazz or purchase a “relaxing sounds” CD to help slow your mind and body down for an evening of peaceful sleep.

5) Try mind- body techniques. After an action-packed day, your brain and body need to unwind and detox before sleep can occur (a.k.a. you need to chill!) Create a “ritual” for bedtime – take a bath, meditate, do some easy stretches or yoga. Try to do your “ritual” in the same way, in the same place, at the same time each night. The repetition will trigger your mind and body that it is time to relax and sleep.

6) Try a natural sleep aid. For many people, while the above tips and suggestions may help, it often isn’t enough. if you are one of those people who really have a hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep, you may want to try a natural sleep aid.

For mom’s bearing the child is one thing that makes them experience sleepless nights. This runs on until the first few months of the newborn and chances are they would become frustrated and entirely weak for the first few months of the child. Unless of course you get a nanny or someone to help out take care of the child, these are given factors that mothers will have to deal with this sleeping problem. However, after some years when the child becomes a little bit older, these are perhaps the years when mothers can look forward to try and recover lost ground when it comes to trying to regain lost sleep. Compared to the old ways of trying to sleep, they can look forward to better nights ahead. While there may still be some sleepless nights on case to case basis, the thing is, the gravity of the lack of sleep becomes lighter this time around. (Source) A study suggests that sleep deprivation after giving birth may limit a new mother’s ability to shed her pregnancy-related pounds.

Women who slept five hours a day six months after giving birth were more than three times likelier to keep weight on compared with women who slept seven hours, say researchers at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland.

Sleep is something important and this covers all people of any race. While we all know of the growing concern for this issue, some are tied up with actual problems going on around kids. One is that of Asperger Syndrome, a known autism spectral disorder. While we see autistic children differently, they are still human and experience the same problems we normally encounter. Just like us, they have their own share of sleep deprivation problems, probably worse if they are not given the same attention that we put for normal people with sleep issues. Asperger Syndrome (AS) is one of several autism spectrum disorders characterized by difficulties in social interaction and by restricted interests and activities. With AS, there is no general delay in language or cognitive development. Researchers from Italy looked at sleep and children with AS. It is the first known study of its kind. For the study, researchers focused on eight children with AS, 10 children with autism and 12 healthy children. Parents filled out several questionnaires and the children underwent several sleep tests. Researchers report 50 percent of children with AS were reluctant to go to bed, 75 percent needed the television or a light on … Continue reading →
a

Many people have always believed that stuffing themselves with food to take the place of usual sleeping habits has been a good way to combat insomnia and known sleep deprivation issues we hear of today. Obesity has been another area for health concerns and surely, there is an association between sleep deprivation and obesity as studies from the National Sleep Foundation have shown. The whole theory is quite ridiculous. While some people believe in it, it is an unhealthy way of living and making up for lack of sleep which is obviously a need today. Food has its own role in maintaining health and sad to say, it is not a good substitute when it comes to trying to make up for lost sleep.
Often, babies are known to only sleep, feed and play a lot during their infancy stage. At times, there will be occasions when babies may not want to sleep immediately owing to some sort of sickness or discomfort that need to be diagnosed properly by parents. In some cases, the intervention of physicians or pediatricians may be a need especially if the baby is really suffering from such a disorder owing to the fact of not being able to rest properly. The list of potential causes can go on. It can be something that could be traced towards indigestion or potential fever. Babies cannot speak out what they feel and while some people call it a guessing game, knowing their child is the best way to diagnose what the immediate problem really is. Sleep deprivation among parents is evident since they must attend to the needs of their child. Kids only become babies once in their lifetime and a little sleep deprivation at this stage is little sacrifice to ensure the overall health and comfort of babies.

A lot of the people today would normally suffer some identified health problem to go with sleep. One of them is that of diabetes, something that arises from continuous fluctuations in the blood sugar. While monitoring these problems from someone dear to us is already a sleep deprivation of sorts on its own, the patient undergoing this problem suffers a whole lot dearly. Some may not know the essence of controlling and treating the main problem above all. Physicians are even baffled by the whole thing and relying heavily on medication and prescribed drugs do not always solve the problem at hand. Food intake and controlling the carbohydrates and related nutrients can help ease the burden at times. Sleep is often interrupted by these illnesses as diabetes but if a person plays and observes the cycle, anyone can try to test some form of alternative remedy to address the whole situation and gain headway in putting emphasis on quality sleeping habits as needed by the human body. There have been various forms of remedies and therapies today and among them include the use of sleep apnea patients on CPAP masks or mouth guards to help the passage of air. However, the Medical College of Wisconsin are now finalizing the possible alternative of using sleep apnea implant devices that can help resolve the sleep apnea epidemic. While the incision towards the chin may seem to be a painful experience, medical researchers and physician have guaranteed that is not.

Read more about it in this regional news article of Sleep Apnea Trial.

Life has become grueling to date. Working and simultaneously performing our duties at home as a parent will take its toll and become a source for sleep deprivation. Many would hire nannies or household help, but in reality, kids would still prefer their actual parents to spend quality time with them. So what is a parent to do? He or she cannot turn his or her back on the kids. The attention is important and most parents should be reminded that there are personal duties that they must perform as well. As Ilya Welfeld of Bergenfield, N.J., a working mother of three small children who gets only three to six hours of daily sleep said, she will just wait till the kids get older.
Jumpy and with a lot of things in mind can be stressful. Some go to the extent of being over-fatigued but yet would not know what to do. Many find it hard to sleep if they are in this stage. This may sound weird but the truth behind it is that people who are used to being hyperactive would tend to look for the various activities that would make them click. Hence, once a person is free from doing anything and has his bed as the only object he sees, chances are he will not immediately go to sleep. A mixture of excitement and high adrenaline rush is still existent and chances are the person would still be looking for means to be doing something rather than lying back and resting his laurels. In a way, sleep deprivation stems from over-fatigue. People just can’t believe that they have done so much. This development contributes to sleep deprivation because of its mental approach, something that people in the hyperactive life know all too well. Randy Gardner holds a Guinness world record for the longest period of time a human being has intentionally gone without sleep not using stimulants of any kind. In 1964, as a 17-year-old high school student in San Diego, California, Gardner stayed awake for 264 hours (11 days) with the help of friends, TV reporters, and shooting hoops. On his final day without sleep, Gardner presided over a press conference where he spoke without slurring or stumbling his words and in general appeared to be in excellent health. “I wanted to prove that bad things didn’t happen if you went without sleep,” said Gardner. “I thought, ‘I can break that (Peter Tripp’s 1959) record and I don’t think it would be a negative experience.’” Sleep experts now believe that such sleep deprivation stunts are dangerous via wikipedia a 17_year_old, friends_tv, guinness_world_record, negative_experience, randy_gardner, san_diego_california, shooting_hoops, Sleep Celebrity, Sleep Celebrity, SLEEP News, SLEEP News, sleeplessness, sleep_deprivation, sleep_experts, stayed_awake, stimulants, tripp, tv_reporters, wikipedia
a
