Daylight Savings Time Causes Sleep Problems
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung November 12th, 2007 in SLEEP News, SLEEP Psychology.
Some may call it a mental problem but dealing with the daylight savings time that has been in effect today has some people suffering from sleep disorder issues encountering more problems. The transition from the old time to DST is really something that many deem as affecting the normal body clock of people. But then again, adjustments should be made to be able to get the proper amount of sleep.
People unaware of the time adjustments to daylight savings time would normally live their usual lives. The thing with people today is that adjusting is taken in vain. Just try ignoring this adjustment and there is really low to none adjustments if people so choose to do so.
Sleep can be considered a ‘change of shifts.’ There is the ‘awake’ day brain and the ’sleeping’ night brain. The transition or ’shift change’ from wakefulness to sleep normally takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes. The body needs time to properly shut down the ‘awake’ brain and activate the sleep cycles.”
“Many people with sleep disorders tend to rationalize their symptoms,” says Craig. “They believe fatigue is just part of growing older. Others think they are tired all the time because they are working too hard. Sleep issues are persistently ignored. Sleep studies can help identify the problem early.”

More Studies Called for Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders are growing rampantly and to date, there have only been a handful of explanations that lead to why this has been occurring frequently. Many are suffering and the numbers continue to grow. Just like any illness we all find ourselves in, there always has to be a need to break it down to more detailed medical findings to properly diagnose why such medical disorders occur.
One-fifth of all adult Finns either get too little sleep or sleep poorly. The Finnish Sleep Federation has organized a campaign week reminding people that the causes of sleep disorders should always be examined.

When To Sleep and When to Wake Up

If all of us had a choice, my bet is that people would rather stay in bed over getting up and having to do the routine activities such as going to work or doing the chores that are included in a day’s daily cycle. People love to sleep. There is however some who want to sleep but cannot enjoy it as much since the problem of sleeping on time and being proactive is a conflict that is normal to which people must adjust.
A lot has to do with working hours. Today, people are left with little choice of following the standard 8 to 5 working hours. People now have to be open towards graveyard shifts and weird working hours to be compensated for it. Insomnia and sleep disorders are sure to suffice but in its entirety, people have to force themselves to adjust to earn a clean living and survive in the world today.

Proper Diagnosis Requires Proper Complaints

Doctors and physicians are always there to help in diagnosing any health issue that may be troubling most people and this includes areas of sleep disorders. However, unless a patient wholly reveals and narrates the entire problem, a doctor cannot fully diagnose nor guess if the patient does indeed have a sleeping problem.
There are communication gaps every time a patient sees his physician. It all lies in the area that people sometimes take for granted the importance of being detailed with every illness or happening that comes their way. This in turn moves towards an incomplete scenario to which proper diagnosis of the whole problem may come up short. Hence it is best to tell everything rather than leave out the supposedly unimportant things which may eventually be the critical causes of the issue at hand.

Sleep-Aid Drugs Provide No Remedy

While most people are content on using sleeping drugs to cure their sleeping disorder, they should not be totally reliant. As a whole, sleep-aid drugs can become serious pains and may even affect the entire body in the very worst way after some time of using them frequently.
It is a given that sleep disorders are something that has been plaguing the world as far as health issues are concerned. However, sleep institutes are still around to help resolve the issue. Medicine and drugs can help but they should not be the only recourse to be counted on.
