Allergies Cause Infant Sleep Disorders
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung March 20th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders, Sleep Issues.
We often observe that kids would sneeze or even suddenly get up to scratch that itch when they are in bed. When we see these things, we can only try to assist and soothe them through giving lotions or even simply being there to guide them. But wait a minute; shouldn’t we also consider the fact that to be able to check out this stuff, their sleep is disturbed entirely?
Allergies contribute to sleep disorder. It is a fact that these irritating episodes force kids, even adults, to have to wake up due to these inconveniences. We rarely value them as important. But taken as a whole, they are notable contributors hence it would be wise to seek treatment for allergies to limit these sleep disturbances and get that much needed sleep due to our kids and ourselves.
Out of the parents whose kids had allergies, many suffered from lack of sleep, a fact that made it harder for them to function at a high level during the day.
“We have known anecdotally that children are affected by allergy symptoms similarly to adults, but Pediatric Allergies in America offers the first data quantifying the scope of how allergies interrupt a child’s productivity, sleep cycle and daily functioning,” said Dr. Jay Portnoy, president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

Look Out for a Cholesterol Drug called Zocor
1 Comment Published by Brian Yalung November 9th, 2007 in Health Issues, SLEEP News, Sleep Disorders.
The thing about sleep deprivation is that they are termed as mental problems. However, sleep problems can also be solicited from pills and drugs we take that aim to solve various health problems as well.
Health issues such as high cholesterol levels usually need to be treated. Before serious surgeries are considered, people will be asked to take anti-biotics or prescribed medicine before serious medication would be resorted to such as Zocor, a cholesterol drug prescribed today.
In most cases while one aspect of health issues are being treated, another is being harmed. This is where other health issues such as sleep disturbances may crop up, making it another health problem that needs to be addressed.

Sleeping when the TV is on
0 Comments Published by Lilian May 28th, 2007 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, Sleep Disorders.
I admit I’m one of those people who need to keep the television on so that I can go to sleep. I turn the volume down; never mind if I don’t hear anything while my eyes are glued to the screen. The glare is what keeps me drowsy. And like clockwork at some point, I will eventually find myself closing my eyes and dozing off to dream land. When someone tries to turn the TV off, I instantly wake up, as if my body is connected to the TV’s power source.
Are you one of those people like me? Do you prefer sleeping with the TV on? I guess that for older people, this habit is already hard to break. It’s the younger sets we should be wary of developing this.
Television viewing at bedtime, and overall heavy television viewing, caused children to resist going to bed, to have trouble falling asleep, and to sleep less than the recommended eight hours. TV watching habits, such as falling asleep in front of the television, seemed to cause sleep disturbances in 25 percent of children with behavioral sleep disorders.
“Television may serve to displace sleep time, thus shortening sleep duration to unacceptable limits,” stated the report. “The time spent by the child in television viewing may substitute for other less sedentary and/or less passive activities (like playing outside, engaging in sports activities), resulting in poor-quality sleep.”
