A Pill to Solve Snoring Problems
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung April 16th, 2008 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleeping Pills.
One thing that most people hate the most is having to sleep beside their partner who may snore a lot. Aside from the irritating noise, snoring is a dangerous symptom of a possible health disorder mainly because if affects the respiratory system of humans and may attack whenever we find ourselves sleeping.
There are sleeping masks and sleeping pills that have been introduced to the people concerned and apparently there is a new pill known only as BGC20-0166 which target areas of the brain and control the muscles of a sleeper’s airway and airflow.
Proper breathing is equally important for people with sleep problems. Obstructive sleep apnea is no joke and snoring is sure to set off some problems if they are not treated properly along the way.
‘The results from this trial demonstrate the potential of this drug to decrease sleep apnoea in some patients and normalise it in others,’ Thomas Roth, an advisor to the life sciences company BTG who are researching the drug and director of the Sleep Disorders and Research Centre at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, said.
The new drug is a combination of two existing anti-snoring drugs and in limited trials has so far proved more effective than either of the two drugs used independently, or a placebo.

Loud Snorers Have Cures
0 Comments Published by Brian Yalung February 7th, 2008 in Health Issues, How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Snoring.
As far as snoring is concerned, the immediate generalization of most people is that they stem from fatigue. But if they are looked upon closely, there may be other things of concern such as some health problems involved.
The best way is to make visit to your physician or sleep specialist. They can more or less diagnose any health-related issue concerning the whole ordeal. While some would choose otherwise, many would be surprised at the things they would learn such as breathing problems and even higher levels of health problems is concerned.
There are medications and devices that can help people cure snoring. Do not just conclude anything without the express insights of a licensed physician. The difference may be serious to your health as you would think.
Experts believe there are as many as 300,000 sleep apnoea sufferers in the UK but only one fifth are diagnosed.
The rest simply believe they are bad snorers.
The condition causes the muscles in the throat to collapse, closing the airway and causing the sufferer to stop breathing for up to ten seconds.
After the airway has closed, they “wake” and breathe deeply which produces the snoring sound. However, the sufferer does not regain consciousness in the process and is not aware of it.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea has apparently become alarming in the past years and if people, especially the men are not careful, the consequences of putting their lives at risk may grow as each day passes by. Most of this obstructive sleep apnea has been traced towards difficulty in breathing and while many find it normal to date, it really has health risks that most people should start to be aware off.
Sleep specialists are the best people to approach to understand sleep apnea better. Proper diagnosis of what potential threats through the use of machines such as the polysomnography helps identify the sleep patterns and the spells of difficulty in breathing. We all know that snoring has become common but to avoid complications, it is better to visit our sleep doctor as soon as we can to eliminate any controversial health risks that may be involved.
Men bear the brunt of obstructive sleep apnea. The sleep disorder, which is twice as common in men as in women, causes some 12 million Americans to temporarily and repeatedly stop breathing while they sleep. The condition may seem at first blush like a mere annoyance; it can cause heavy snoring and daytime drowsiness. But medical authorities warn that it can be lethal, as it’s linked to increased risk of cardiovascular problems, stroke, and accidents.

Nothing Cute about A Baby’s Snore
1 Comment Published by Brian Yalung October 14th, 2007 in How to sleep better, SLEEP News, Sleep Issues, Snoring.
We often look at how our kids sleep when they are first born. We see them yawning, tossing and turning, or maybe even letting out a quiet murmuring sound which is eventually a snore. We will find it cute and amazing. But realistically, it is not really something we should adore or be proud of.
For all we know, these sounds are indications of something internally wrong with the child. Lapses in breathing or difficulty in the air passage is highly critical in children. It is best to mention this to their pediatrician beforehand just to be safe. Not a cause for alarm but if it recurs, then you may just have something to worry about.
